Initially named as 'Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd, Yavatmal' was supervised by VP Babaji Date in 1949 to meet financial needs of the common people and inculcate a habit of savings amongst them. In 1959, the first bank was set up in Yavatmal with a motive to provide facilities in villages like Patanbori, a tribal area on the border of Andhra Pradesh where there were no facilities.
1969 was the period when the bank received the permit to start the actual working by District Deputy Registrar Co-operative Societies. The bank later changed its name to ‘Yavatmal Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd’. Until 1979, the bank had a single branch operating in the city of Yavatmal. The bank had lent a helping hand to a number of talented entrepreneurs and gave them savings direction.
The success of the bank was visible as The Reserve Bank of India allowed the bank to open five more branches after seeing the bank's move in the year. Accordingly, Amravati, Gadchandur, Bhadravati, Nagpur (Devnagar) and Akola branches were opened. Presently, the Bank has jurisdiction over the entire State of Maharashtra and the bank is operating with 34 fully integrated branches.
